A Breath For Humanity focuses on a collection of stories all exploring “breath.” How do class, gender, and racial barriers limit who gets to breathe easy? How do experiences of harm and anxiety restrict breath? What routines and actions can we take to heal, and to calm our breathing? Numerous Chicago artists and artists outside of Illinois collaborate to articulate the role breathing plays in our everyday lives through the lens of social media.

Didn’t know I needed to make this clear. But I am black. I’m a child of an immigrant and my life matters. Therefore Black Lives Matter. I know I run a rather fluff blog with silly selfies and pictures of cows but that doesn’t negate the fact I walk through this world as a black girl with an accent and we don’t live in a world where things are fair and racism exists and their institutions in place to oppress ppl who look like me. I just had an interaction with a guy who initially showered me with compliments but blocked me upon reading my bio that says BLM ✊🏾. He told me it’s a terrorist organization and I think that’s funny because you know what’s not a terrorist group under American law the KKK and they have literally lynched ppl. Please don’t ever step to me on fuck shit y’all. I will not apologize for being on my own side and if you don’t like it you can leave.

After I posted my #CutiesReview last night I woke up to so many mixed reviews. Some that called me names, others who didn’t see the film at all but thought I should see what their point was. However there have been some gems in the comments and when I see comments like this I know why I do what I do. I encourage you all to go and watch #Cuties and keep an open mind when doing so. Our children need guidance, they also need to know it is ok that their bodies are changing and we don’t shame them for it while also teaching them the right and wrong way to express themselves.
